In the WordPress admin, in the left admin bar is a “Users” menu.  Under that you will find a “Settings” menu.  When you click it, the first screen you come to is the General Settings for WP User Manager.

A variety of options are configured on this page, and this doc will cover each of them individually.

Pages Setup

WPUM uses 5 different pages to process all the different parts of the frontend profiles. When you install WPUM it creates them for you, but you can change them on the General Settings page. Keep in mind these are simply plain WordPress Pages with specific shortcodes in them. If you want something other than the default, simply create it, put the shortcode on it, and choose it from the General Settings page.

Login setup

Lock access to wp-login.php: this option allows you to lock access to the wp-login.php page on your WordPress website. Users will be redirected to your custom login page.

Allow users to login with: the following options allows you to decide in what way your users can login to your site.

  • Username: users can only login by typing their username.
  • Email: users can only login by typing their email.
  • Username & email: users can login by typing either their username or their email address.

Misc Settings

Admin bar: this option allows you to disable the admin bar for specific user roles on the frontend of your website. Click into the field, and select one or multiple user roles.

Excluded usernames: this tool allows you to specify usernames and nicknames that cannot be used by your members. Separate multiple usernames on a new line.
